Fort-Coulonge: a bit of history!

Added on 23/08/2006 - Author : admin

Fort-Coulonge’s history goes right back to the beginning of the colony, at the time of the fur traders and the coureurs des bois (wood runners). Then came the era of forest exploitation and colonization. The arrival of the Bryson, Romain, Frost, Davis and Bertrand families as well as many others, constitutes the very beginning of our development. Still today, visitors can see living traces of their presence: the Toller house (SpruceHolme), the Proudfoot house, the Rabb house and, without forgetting, the Marchand bridge (covered bridge), the Bryson house and the magnificent Coulonge waterfalls. You will discover all of this by driving, in a northerly direction, down Principale street, our Allée des Manoirs.

Incorporated in 1888, Fort-Coulonge was and still is today an important doorway to Pontiac’s history. This, thanks to its rich heritage and the hospitality of its residents. However you come, take the opportunity to visit our lovely town. And, in passing, take a few pictures. You’ll find us very photogenic! We are very proud of our town and we will be pleased to welcome you. Have a pleasant stay!
